Thursday: Kale Apple Smoothie
Today we go back to kale and up the ante with a stalk of celery. Flavor comes mainly from the apple juice and celery. This one was easy enough to make and easy enough to consume. The celery taste was fairly strong so if you like celery fabulous and if not then not so fabulous. I would probably use this smoothie as a change of pace and not as a regular staple.
Ingredients:
3/4 cup chopped kale, ribs and thick stems removed
1 small stalk celery, chopped
1/2 banana
1/2 cup apple juice
1/2 cup ice
1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
In terms of nutrition, this smoothie is the lightest of the lot with only 139 calories, 1 gram of fat, 3 grams of protein, 35 grams of carbs (21 of sugar) and 3 grams of fiber. It also has a moderate 79 milligrams of calcium. Tomorrow, in a scenario that probably strikes fear into the hearts of blenders everywhere, I come up with my own smoothie recipe.
